Gabriel Gresly

Gabriel Gresly (1712-1756)

Hijo de un artesano del cristal. Fue un artista auto-didacta y que se traslado a París para mejorar su técnica.

Para su sorpresa cunando llegó a París, descubrió que una de sus obras se vendía como el trabajo de un renombrado autor. Una vez descubierto el fraude, consiguió mucha popularidad, creándole una reputación y por lo tanto obteniendo mucho trabajo.

Por motivos de salud tuvo que abandonar Paris para instalarse en Besançon en su provincia nativa donde continuó trabajando hasta su muerte en 1756.

Son of a well known glass maker. Was a shelf taught artista who came to Paris to improve his artistic technique.

He was shocked to Discovery that one of his paintings has preceded him to the city and was been sold as the work of a renowned master. After the fraud he gained him considerable notoriety, creating him reputation and subsequently he was inundated with work.

Gresly leaved Paris because of poor health and moved to Besançon in his native province. He continued to work there producing protraits, genre style life and trompe l´oeil subjects until his death in 1756.
